Song of the Day - January 31, 2006

Here's another over achieving Seattle band, Tennis Pro, which combines the harmony of the Beach Boys and the wry wit of Weezer. The world needs more bands like Tennis Pro with their unique style of power pop. On their 2004 debut album Happy Is the New Sad the standout track is "Bellingham." It starts out with what I believe is a borrowed riff from another master of power pop, Elvis Costello, and continues with the one of the best choruses I have heard in quite awhile, "Got nothing but love for Bellingham." The harmony they produce is absolutely addictive. By the way, Bellingham is the home of Western Washington University located on the scenic coast near the border of Washington and Canada.
