Song of the Day - January 16, 2005

The track "The One I Love Is Gone" by the Lowlights is one of the most lonesome songs I have ever heard. It is a mixture of alternative country with psychedelic tinges. Graham Parsons, many moons ago, referred to this style of music as "Cosmic American Music" and the moniker could not be more accurate for the Lowlights. The song has banjo, fiddle, guitar, harmonica, and keyboards which coalesce to create a drifting, limpid, atmospheric aural soundscape that is just perfect for contemplative cold nights.
