Song of the Day - January 9, 2005

If you haven't heard of The Greenhornes, you surely will shortly. The Greenhornes backed up Jack White and Loretta Lynn on the Van Lear Rose album, opened for the White Stripes, and will join forces with Jack White to form a new band called The Raconteurs, which should have an album out sometime this year. The Greenhornes combine the neo-garage band sounds of today with the likes of legendary bands such as The Yardbirds and The Kinks. The track "Shadow of Grief" shows their early 60's influences with bluesy harmonica, organ, and just plain fun music. Click here to listen.

I'm getting excited for the Raconteurs upcoming releaes... to that point, you can't forget about Brendan Benson, who is the other chief songwriter in the Raconteurs with Jack White. Benson also produced the Greenhornes' most recent release, the East Grand Blues EP (the album Sewed Soles is actually a greatest hits compilation.)
