Song of the Day - January 11, 2006

The Robot Ate Me are an unusual treat. Their music is a study in understatement. It is done elegantly and perfectly resulting in some spectacular music that may not appeal to everyone, though I never worry about appealing to the masses. On their latest effort Carousel Waltz, Ryland Bouchard's cracked softly song vocals meld with the beautiful arrangements of clarinet, trumpet, violin, cello, and even accordion to create simply beautiful musical vignettes. The track "Where Love Goes" exemplifies this with a haunting trumpet refrain combined with an angelic chorus. If you listen closely you can hear the echoes of The Beatles in their work.
