Song of the Day - May 31, 2006

Danielson is a huge collective of artists led by Daniel Smith. On Ships, Smith collaborated with artist such as Deerhoof, Sufjan Stevens, Sereena Maneesh, Leopulde, Half-handed Cloud and others to create this magnum opus where he is assisted by a 20-piece band. Danielson and all its derivatives Danielson Famile and Brother Danielson are definitely a cult like phenomenon with their Christian leanings and psychedelic hippie-like music. The music is great and it is the idiosyncrasy of their songs both musically and lyrical that attracts me. "Did I Step On Your Trumpet" immediately jumped out at me with it's lyrical trumpet intro that dissolved into an acoustic guitar and a great vocal interchange between Daniel Smith and the chorus. This is a musical treat of the highest order. Click
