Song of the Day - December 7, 2006

Former vocalist and cellist for Belle and Sebastian has released her second album this year with Milk White Sheets. It is a quiet introspective album where Isobel's voice barely rises above a whisper. In fact, it is this quality that makes the album intriguing, forcing you to listen closely to her words. The first track, "O Love Is Teasin" is a gentle song, but underneath it all I sense a certain level of tension that is appealing. In a more folk-like vein, I was immediately attracted to the traditional folk song "Are You Going to Leave Me" featuring her hushed voice and rumbling drums, which she transforms into a "psychedelic lullaby" and my song of the day.
